Currently in NSW the Legislative Council in the the state Parliament has two inquiries underway into both the Sydney Night Time Economy as well as the Music Festivals Regulations introduced earlier in 2019.

  1. Joint Select Committee on Sydney’s Night Time Economy: This joint select committee was established on 29 May 2019 to inquire into and report on Sydney’s night time economy. The committee will report to Parliament by 30 September 2019.
  2. Liquor Amendment (Music Festivals) Regulation 2019 and Gaming and Liquor Administration Amendment (Music Festivals) Regulation 2019: This inquiry was established on 30 May 2019 to inquire into and report on the impact and implementation of the Liquor Amendment (Music Festivals) Regulation 2019 and the Gaming and Liquor Administration Amendment (Music Festivals) Regulation 2019.

Live Music Office Submissions to each of these inquiries can be found here:

Each of these inquiries has attracted significant interest from the music sector and the wider community, with findings due to be handed down in months ahead. With significant implications for the music industry and the cultural and night time economy in Sydney and greater NSW, we very much hope that the thoroughly considered views provided by the music sector will be recognised by the committee and the NSW Government in responding to committee findings.
