Sounds Australia, AIR and PPCA are now seeking expressions of interest from Australian independent labels to take part in an Australian delegation to the American Association of Independent Music’s (A2IM’s) Indie Week in New York City this June 2015.

Indie Week 2015 is a member-only conference for record labels and service providers with a strong focus on the exploitation of master recordings, licensing, networking and digital revenue streams. AIR has attended previous Indie Week events and strongly believes that Australian labels benefit from having a presence at this emerging conference focused on the specific needs of independent music labels.

Further, this year’s trip will also include SyncSummit in New York City. SyncSummit is a high-level, focused networking event where top music supervisors, heads of music in visual and interactive media (TV, Film, Video Games, Advertising, the Internet and Mobile), label executives, publishers, music libraries, composers, artists, technologists, legal, accounting, brand managers and service providers gather for two days of discussion, networking and deal making.

We have been extended invitations for 10 representatives of Australian labels to attend Indie Week and SyncSummit. Our good friends at Sounds Australia will be covering registration costs for both events.

Due to limited capacity, we ask all interested parties to show an expression of interest by filling out this survey – it shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes to complete.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR INITIAL EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST BY MONDAY 2ND FEBRUARY.

Event sessions for Indie Week 2015 are still to be confirmed but to give you an idea, Indie Week 2014 featured:

  • 700+ music executives, including a huge representation of U.S. labels
  • Delegations of labels from over 15 countries, including Australia, UK, China, France, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Canada, Korea, Japan and New Zealand.
  • The 2014 American Independent Music Awards – “The Libera Awards”.
  • Extensive executive one-on-one networking on sync licensing, marketing and digital revenue, music supervision for TV, film and advertising.
  • Panels on Neighbouring Rights, Licensing & Publishing, Music Supervisors & Brand Representatives, Metadata, Streaming, Advertising, A&R.
  • Keynote speech from Gareth Murphy, author of “Cowboys & Indies”.
  • Attendance from WIN (Worldwide Independent Network), MERLIN and IMPALA.

Please note:

  • Indie Week 2015 will be held in New York City from Mon 22nd to Fri 26th
  • SyncSummit will be held in New York City Thu 18th and Fri 19th
  • Sounds Australia’s sponsorship will cover conference registration for both events for a small group of delegates as well as participation in panel discussions and one-on-one networking.
  • Australian attendees are responsible for booking and funding all flights, transfers and accommodation themselves.
  • A2IM’s Indie Week 2015 is an “invitation only” event and not open to the general public.
  • Due to limited capacity and the small number of invitations, all attending Australian labels must have a catalogue of at least five albums and represent the music of at least three artists. It is expected that they are digitally pro-active and are doing business internationally.

The Australian delegation to Indie Week will be co-ordinated by AIR and Sounds Australia and supported by the PPCA.
