As the opening event of the 2014 Sydney Fringe Festival, The Live Music Office, City of Sydney and APRA AMCOS piloted the first event from an ongoing project to develop a precinct event template to better support local musicians and venues with the event, ‘Ignite – Heat The Street’, curated by musician Ilan Kidron. Funding was committed by the City of Sydney Council for Live and Local precinct events as one of 60 actions endorsed by Council from the City of Sydney Live Music and Performance Taskforce.

Artist Feedback

It was such a great supportive atmosphere, and was one of the most enjoyable gigs I have ever done because of that. I love the diversity of Fringe Festivals, there was a folk act prior, a comedic music theatre performance afterwards, a rock band spilling in from down stairs and a brass band heard from the streets. This Diversity created a great atmosphere and I feel that there was more appreciation for the uniqueness of each individual act from the punters.”

I know that other musicians involved were thrilled and encouraged by the response they received. The performances were mainly in small intimate spaces, so the interaction with the public was up close and that added excitement to the experience. Unusual venue spaces worked really well in giving all parties a greatly enjoyed musical experience.

I thought the programming was diverse and of an extremely high standard.

Lastly, the feeling on the street was that of a festival atmosphere, and the sense of Sydney as a vibrant and cultural community was very strong. I would only add that it was achieved without a throng of security personnel or obstructing vehicular traffic in the area.

All in all a great success I would say
