Launched on December 8 at the Workers Club in Geelong, The Central Geelong Live Music Action Plan (LiveMAP) has been developed to help grow networks and align community, commercial and government efforts towards a more active, creative and sustainable live music culture in Geelong.
While focused on Central Geelong, the LiveMAP also creates a broader framework and rationale for the role of live music across Greater Geelong.
With the support of Council and staff, and with ongoing music sector guidance from local industry – including Hugo T Armstrong, Wayne Jury, the LiveMAP Steering Group as well as Music Victoria, Matt Balmford and the Sapere Research group and the Live Music Office – The Central Geelong Actions List is a well researched initiative, ordered by four themes:
- Theme #1: Broadening live music’s presence within Central Geelong
- Theme #2: Developing places and spaces for live music in Central Geelong
- Theme #3: Reducing barriers to audience awareness and growth
- Theme #4: Backing sustainable music enterprises
Since the recent completion of capital works through the Little Malop St entertainment precinct, and the appointment of profile music industry figure Fiona Duncan as the Arts Events Officer for the City of Greater Geelong, its an exciting time for music industry development in the second largest city in Victoria.
